James Bearden Sculpture

James Bearden is a nationally recognized abstract artist, using his torch to cut steel and bronze into sculptural and functional forms.  He works in a series named Cathedral, Assemblage, Voids, and featured in the gallery are Lunar Blooms & Animals.

Bearden earned a BA in Fine Art and a BA in Visual Communications from Grandview College in Des Moines, IA. He started his art career as a graphic designer and was an Art Director for an advertising agency based out of Des Moines where he received 52 Addy Awards.

In 2007 James decided to leave that job and focus on fine art.  He began to learn welding and working with steel appealed to him as a more long-lasting sculpting material than other mediums.  His brutalist style emerged building forms encrusted with craggy texture and charred, corroded or patinated finishes.

James' work can be found in galleries across the country including New York City, Manhattan, New Jersey, and Chicago.  His work is also held in corporate, municipal and prominent private collections.  Lunar Blooms, Animals, and other garden art are available at Artisan Gallery 218!

All of James' sculptures are ready for the outdoors!  Simply apply clear coat once per year to maintain the color and patina.
